Middlefield, CT. — June 29 — The Middlefield Volunteer Fire Company reinforced skills necessary for emergency situations on the water by conducting water rescue training in Lake Beseck. Members worked on drone-assisted search operations, victim removal, boat operations, and victim search strategies. In order to enhance aerial support and situational awareness during emergency simulations, the department's FAA-certified drone pilots collaborated with rescue teams.

Coordination between boat teams and drone operators was the main goal of the exercise, which also strengthened response protocols. Frequent practical training ensures that firefighters are ready to respond effectively to water rescue emergencies throughout Middlefield and nearby mutual aid towns, supports safe operations, and helps maintain competency.
