On June 13, members of the Old Mystic Fire Department attended a recruitment event at a nearby high school to inform kids about the fire service's potential.

Firefighters emphasized the department's Junior Member Program, which offers training and experience to young people interested in emergency services and is available to those aged 14 to 17. According to department authorities, a large number of previous junior members have gone on to work as firemen, EMTs, department officers, including the current Fire Chief, as well as professionals in the medical field and other fields related to public safety.
