Mutual Aid Crews Practiced Advanced Vehicle Rescue

Essex, CT. — June 23 — Essex Fire Engine Co. firefighters. Members of the Chester and Deep River fire departments participated in a regional car rescue exercise organized by #1. The crews were split up into three groups, each of which had to perform a different accident scenario in which one vehicle was stacked on top of another. Before utilizing hydraulic rescue equipment to reach the simulated occupants in the lower vehicle, firefighters stabilized the higher vehicle.


The training focused on communication between mutual assistance partners, safe stabilization, and coordinated extrication. Additionally, participants reviewed new equipment and rescue tactics and shared their own. The simulation improved the Valley Shore region's readiness and reaffirmed the importance of routine cooperative training for complicated vehicle rescue situations.
