Hackensack firefighters, active and retired, family, friends and local officials gathered at Fairmont Park for the annual memorial to honor members who gave their lives in the line-of-duty, and for all deceased members of the department. On July 1, 1988, five city firefighters were killed battling a fast-moving fire that involved an auto dealership on River Street. They were: Captain Richard Williams, Lt. Richard Reinhagen, and Firefighters William Krejsa, Leonard Radumski and Steven Ennis. Several members of the fire department have also fallen due to 9-11 related cancers. This marked the first memorial where there were no longer any active duty members that served in 1988. Never Forget.
