Groton Long Point, CT. — June 12 — A regional Search and Rescue (SAR) drill was held on Fisher's Island Sound by the Groton Long Point Volunteer Fire Department and the Noank Fire Department. During a simulated marine emergency, eight emergency service groups took part both on the sea and on land to evaluate coordinated response protocols.
While practicing quick search assignments, communications, and resource coordination, crews worked through the Marine Group Region 4 Incident Command Post. The exercise improved communication between law enforcement, fire, and marine response organizations that safeguard waterways in southeast Connecticut. Frequent regional training keeps participating agencies ready for maritime search and rescue situations by enhancing command, coordination, and operational readiness.
