Gales Ferry, CT. — June 25 — Using in-house training props, members of the Gales Ferry Volunteer Fire Company finished training on hidden fire detection, thermal imaging camera use, and fire behavior. Before using hand tools to reveal hidden fire, firefighters mastered identifying heat sources hidden behind walls and ceilings. The focus of the workshop was on how contemporary furnishings and building materials affect the spread of fire in comparison to older structures that are frequently seen in the neighborhood.
In order to improve tool use, strengthen fireground decision-making, and keep crews ready for structural firefighting operations in a range of building types, the department periodically conducts hands-on drills in its response area, which includes both older and newer architecture.
