A 30-year-old man in trouble was saved by New York City Fire Department (FDNY) personnel on June 1st in the seas south of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge close to Hoffman Island.

According to officials, Marine 8 arrived five minutes after receiving a report of a person in the water while on a routine patrol. The victim was trying to remain afloat without a personal flotation device, according to firefighters. The casualty was hauled alongside the ship by the crews using a throw rope, and he was safely taken out of the ocean. Prior to coordinating with FDNY EMS, members started hypothermia therapy right away. After being taken to the U.S. Coast Guard Sector New York facilities, the patient was moved to EMS for assessment before being taken to a nearby hospital.
