Somerset, N.J. — June 13 — Fire District #1 departments participated in a hazardous materials decontamination training exercise with the Elizabeth Avenue Volunteer Fire Company—Station 26. During the practical exercise, firefighters from Somerset Fire & Rescue Co. No. 1, Millstone Valley Fire Department, and Middlebush Volunteer Fire Department practiced setting up and running decontamination corridors.
After hazmat occurrences, the training concentrated on the safe removal of hazardous materials from personnel, protective gear, and emergency equipment. Frequent drills lower the possibility of secondary contamination while assisting firemen in carrying out these tasks effectively. The meeting increased readiness for upcoming hazardous materials situations and strengthened communication between District #1 departments.
