River Rescue Training Prepares Crews for More Than Just Fires

Canton, CT - Canton Fire & EMS members took to the Farmington River for hands-on rescue boat training, sharpening skills in boat operations, victim removal, and coordinated water rescue efforts.


The drill also provided valuable experience for newer members, reinforcing the importance of real-world training in dynamic environments. While fire suppression is a core mission, today’s firefighters and EMS providers must be ready for a wide range of emergencies—from water and technical rescues to medical and hazardous materials incidents.
