Strengthening Water Rescue Readiness Through Multi-Agency Training

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Selkirk, NY - Several boat-certified firefighters from Selkirk Fire Department recently deployed the department's fire/rescue boat to Castleton for a multi-county training exercise alongside Schodack Landing Fire Department, Coeymans Fire Company #1, and Stuyvesant Fire Department.

The hands-on drill focused on essential fire boat operations, including equipment familiarization, boating safety, water rescue techniques, and radio communications. By training together, these departments continue to strengthen coordination, improve interoperability, and ensure they are prepared to respond quickly and effectively to emergencies on the water.

Working side by side in realistic scenarios helps build the teamwork and confidence needed when every second counts.
