A probationary fireman was honored by Andover Fire Rescue members on June 24th for successfully completing the department's aerial ladder climb at Central Fire Station.
According to officials, before enrolling in the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy, probationary firemen must ascend to the top of the department's 105-foot aerial ladder. The purpose of the practice is to boost self-assurance, enhance comfort when operating at heights, and get rookie firemen ready for any airborne activities they might come across in an emergency.
