Croydon, PA. — May 22 — Through a dual-enrollment program with Bucks County Community College, Truman High School seniors Tommy Tryon and Matthew Powers earned their Firefighter I certificates. Through the curriculum, kids might complete high school requirements, earn college credits, and get ready for employment in emergency services. A real burn exercise at the Lower Bucks Public Safety Training Center marked the end of the program, where participants practiced hose line progression, ladder installation, search and rescue techniques, and fire suppression.
Powers, a volunteer with Newportville Fire Company, and Tryon, a volunteer with Croydon Fire Company Station 11, have both devoted years to serving their communities while seeking firefighter education and training.
