After responding to the three-alarm fire at the famous Eugene O'Neill Theatre on May 4th, members of the City of New York Fire Department were given special commendation.
Following the fire, the Broadway production of The Book of Mormon reopened on May 27, according to officials. FDNY Chief of Department John Esposito received a proclamation honoring the actions of firemen who responded to the event from Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal and co-creator Matt Stone as part of the reopening.
By designating May 27th as Engine 54/Ladder 4 Appreciation Day, the proclamation honored the members whose efforts contributed to the successful return of the show and the preservation of the historic theater.
