Plattsburgh, N.Y. — June 15 — In an effort to improve rural water delivery operations, members of the District No. 3 Fire Department participated in a truck fill and temporary pond training exercise with nearby departments. When hydrants are unavailable or far from an emergency situation, firefighters practice setting up tanker fill sites, deploying portable ponds, and organizing water shuttle operations. In order to increase productivity during major catastrophes, crews also examined communication and equipment location.

In rural locations, a reliable water supply is essential to battling fires. According to department officials, the program reinforced interagency coordination and teamwork while offering practical experience. During prolonged emergency operations, the drill helped guarantee that firemen are still equipped to provide steady water supply.
