The 2026 Beaver Valley Power Station Disaster Preparedness Exercise, a comprehensive emergency response exercise intended to assess the area's preparedness for a significant disaster affecting the power plant, took place on June 9th and involved members of the Aliquippa Firefighters.

According to officials, the City of Aliquippa, which is situated within the 10-mile Emergency Planning Zone of the facility, routinely participates in preparation drills to evaluate emergency plans, communications, resource coordination, and decision-making procedures. Personnel from the city administration, police department, fire department, street department, emergency management, EMS providers, and amateur radio operators participated in the drill.

Participants tested emergency notifications, traffic control, public safety operations, continuity of government functions, and interagency coordination under realistic conditions. Officials noted that the drill provided an opportunity to identify areas for improvement while reinforcing procedures designed to protect residents during a large-scale emergency.

Department leaders said the successful exercise demonstrated the value of teamwork, planning, and preparedness in maintaining public safety.
