The Ledyard Fire Company's weekly Thursday night training session took place on May 28. The evening's agenda was modified to accommodate an increasing number of probationary firefighters.

The intended driver training exercise was extended into several training stations, according to officials. As part of the department's probationary training program, instructors worked with probationary firemen on Job Performance Requirements (JPRs), while certified members completed their driver training. The evening was spent by other members inventorying and getting new hose ready for use.

According to department leaders, the training emphasized the dedication and teamwork that characterize the volunteer fire service. Teachers received recognition for spending time coaching new members and assisting them in acquiring the skills necessary to become proficient emergency responders and firemen.
