Firefighter Paul Crandall lost his fight with cancer earlier this year, and the Alna Volunteer Fire Department is in grief.
According to officials, Crandall was a firefighter in Marion, South Carolina, before moving to Maine, and he worked for the department for ten years. Apart from his employment in firefighting, he was a member of the US Coast Guard for six years and worked with NASA on camera systems that were used to take pictures of lunar landing sites.
Department members described Crandall as a dedicated firefighter whose positive attitude, commitment to service, and innovative ideas made a lasting impact on the organization. Funeral services were scheduled for June 5th at the Alna fire station, followed by a graveside service at Alna Cemetery. Officials said Crandall's contributions to the fire service and his community will not be forgotten.
