After 26 years of operation, the Gore Fire Department discontinued their live-fire training facility on May 17. For firefighter training, including sprinkler system drills, the department has been using an 8-by-40-foot shipping container transformed into a multi-room burn structure since 2000.
After years of heavy use, department personnel disassembled the building. According to officials, the facility gave thousands of hours of practical experience and assisted in the training of over 100 volunteer firemen.
A new training complex constructed out of four shipping containers is made possible by the removal. Fire suppression, search and rescue, rope rescue, confined-space operations, vertical ventilation, vehicle prop training, and sprinkler system education will all be supported by the proposed facility.
