On June 2, 2026, the Waltham Fire Department’s newest recruits entered their third week of in-house training as they continued preparing for the fire academy, which begins on June 8. Members of the department’s Training Division conducted instruction on the use of self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and techniques for navigating in smoke-filled conditions.

The hands-on session focused on building the skills recruits will need to operate safely and effectively in low-visibility environments.
