HUDSON, N.Y. — May 12th — Firefighters from the West Ghent Volunteer Fire Company and members of the Greenport Fire Department, located at 216 Green St., participated in a water operations training exercise at Oakdale Park. In order to create dependable water supplies in places without hydrants, the practical exercise concentrated on portable ponds, dry hydrants, drafting operations, and water shuttle procedures. Participating in the training gave both novice and seasoned firefighters invaluable expertise in preserving water flow during rural firefighting operations.
To support the drill, West Ghent firefighters supplied a portable pond and an extra tanker. This type of training aids departments in improving cooperation during emergencies and fortifying alliances for mutual aid. The lesson reaffirmed the value of cooperation and readiness while handling situations in Columbia County's water-scarce areas.
