Swift Water Training Strengthens Westerly’s Response Capabilities

Westerly, RI - Westerly Fire Department continues to strengthen its capabilities as Lt. Aylward and FF Pityer completed a 32-hour Swift Water Rescue Technician course with Water Training Resources.
The program combined classroom instruction with hands-on river training, covering key skills such as river hydrology, scene management, swiftwater rescue techniques, rope systems, and boat operations.
Both members earned certifications meeting NFPA 1006, NFPA 2500, and FEMA NIMS Position 509 standards, reinforcing the department’s preparedness for water-related emergencies.
This training is a valuable asset in ensuring Westerly remains ready to respond when it matters most
