Avon Volunteer Fire Department Honors Fallen Heroes on Memorial Day

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Avon, CT - Members of the Avon Volunteer Fire Department came together on Memorial Day to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the nation. Although inclement weather led to the cancellation of Avon’s annual Memorial Day Parade, AVFD members proudly participated in a smaller indoor ceremony held at the Avon Senior Center alongside local residents and community leaders.

Following the ceremony, firefighters and their families gathered for the department’s annual Memorial Day BBQ, spending time together while reflecting on the values of service, sacrifice, remembrance, and community.

Department members expressed gratitude for all who have served in the armed forces and paid special tribute to those who never returned home. The department emphasized that the sacrifices of fallen heroes will always be remembered — not only on Memorial Day, but every day of the year.
