CHESTER, Mass. — May 5th — As part of continuous work to prepare the water supply, members of the Chester Volunteer Fire Department received training this week on hydrant labeling and pumping operations. The department's firefighters, who work at 300 Route 20 in Chester, went over how to identify hydrants, attach hoses, operate pumps, and control water flow when responding to structure fires. During emergencies, hydrant locations and water flow capacities can be promptly identified by personnel with the aid of hydrant labeling systems.

Regular training, according to officials, guarantees that firefighters stay knowledgeable about local water systems and apparatus operations while also increasing fireground efficiency. In order to promote firefighter safety and operational preparedness, fire departments around Massachusetts regularly do hydrant inspections and pumping drills. According to the Chester Volunteer Fire Department, practical training is still a crucial component of emergency response readiness.
