CHARLESTOWN, R.I. — 14th May — The Charlestown-Richmond Fire Company, which is currently the Department Charlestown Richmond Fire Department, is acknowledged as one of the organization's founding member departments by a Southern Fire League membership certificate. The league was established to enhance radio communication and mutual aid response among fire departments in southern Rhode Island.

In order to improve regional emergency response operations, the Southern Fire League first joined together units from Charlestown, Richmond, Westerly, and neighboring villages. The group eventually grew to become the Rhode Island Southern Firefighters League. The certificate acts as a reminder of the long-standing departmental collaboration that still supports EMS and fire operations throughout the area.
