Five members of Bay Head Fire Company No. 1 and members of the City of New York Fire Department attended specialized training at the FDNY Fire Academy on Randall's Island on May 4.
According to officials, the yearly training opportunity was made possible by the Leary Firefighters Foundation, which was established by actor Denis Leary when his cousin, a Worcester fireman, died while on duty.
The Bay Head crew finished practical exercises that included victim searches, vehicle extrication, rope rescue, rappelling, and operations in high smoke and fire circumstances. Lieutenant Brian Williams, Firefighter Connor Feehan, Assistant Chief J. Applegate, Firefighter Jess Gaestel, and Firefighter Courtland Hackel were among the participants.
