CHATHAM, NJ — May 3rd — As part of the department's routine training program, firefighters from the Chatham Township Volunteer Fire Department recently finished a roof operations drill at a purchased building. During the simulation, crews worked on roof access, ladder positioning, ventilation strategies, and communication between interior and external workers. According to department officials, acquired structures offer a significant chance for practical, hands-on instruction in a safe setting.

Additionally, firefighters studied safe mobility on pitched rooftops, communication protocols, and tool operations. To assist personnel in maintaining operational readiness for structure fires and other emergency occurrences within the township and nearby mutual aid areas, the department, which is headquartered at 495 River Rd. in Chatham, continues to conduct regular drills throughout the year.
