Essex, MA - The Town of Essex recently hosted a comprehensive, hands-on training program led by Bill Girard of Girard Custom Cut Hardwood, bringing together members of the Essex Fire Department, Essex DPW, and mutual aid partners from the Ipswich and Topsfield DPWs.

The two-day intensive focused on chainsaw operation, maintenance, and safe felling techniques, with a strong emphasis on identifying and managing hazards commonly encountered in storm-damaged environments.

These conditions often present unpredictable risks, making proper training essential for responder safety and effective scene management.

Participants engaged in classroom instruction each morning followed by practical field exercises in the afternoon, reinforcing safe cutting practices and operational efficiency under real-world conditions.
