Vehicle Enters Hackensack River Following Route 80 East MVA

HACKENSACK, NJ - On May 18th at approximately 9:50 P.M., the City of Hackensack Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident on Route 80 East involving multiple vehicles on the Hackensack River Bridge.
Units arrived to find one vehicle that had breached the barrier and entered the Hackensack River near the Ridgefield Park side, where the Ridgefield Park Volunteer Fire Department was already operating. With rising tide conditions, multiple agencies deployed rescue boats, drones with thermal imaging, and an aerial ladder to search for the vehicle.
One person was located nearby by police, and the vehicle was later recovered by tow services. Assistance was also provided by the Hackensack Police Department, Teaneck Fire Department, and the Oradell Fire Department.
