Multi-Agency Oil Spill Response Drill Conducted in Westport Harbor

Westport, MA - A coordinated oil spill response drill was conducted in Westport Harbor involving the Westport Fire Department, Westport Police Department (Drone and Marine Units), Westport and Dartmouth Harbormasters, Dartmouth Fire District No. 1 and Dartmouth Fire District No. 2, along with the United States Coast Guard, Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, the United States Environmental Protection Agency, NUKA Research, and Moran Environmental.


The exercise included classroom-based instruction on oil spill planning and response, followed by a practical field deployment of containment booms in Westport Harbor. The Spindle Rock Club provided staging grounds and facilities for the training activities.


The drill was completed successfully, providing all participating agencies with valuable operational experience and reinforcing coordinated response capabilities for environmental incidents.
