EDGARTOWN, MA — May 4th — As part of continuous training and preparation efforts, Edgartown Fire Department members participated in a water drafting simulation in the Katama area to commemorate International Firefighters' Day. Drafting water from a natural source, a crucial procedure utilized during fires in places without hydrants or during catastrophes requiring an additional water supply, was the main focus of the exercise.

Firefighters practiced water transfer, hose deployment, and pump operations—all of which are frequently utilized in rural and coastal emergency situations. Every year on May 4th, people celebrate International Firefighters' Day to honor firefighters and their contributions to communities all across the world. According to department officials, ongoing practical training keeps workers ready for a variety of fire and emergency situations in Edgartown and the surrounding areas.
