BATH, Maine — April 22nd — A dog wandered through the northeast corner of the fence and got stranded in a nearby marsh, prompting the Bath Fire & Rescue Department to react to a canine rescue at the Washington Street dog park. Firefighter Hinds safely returned the dog to land after entering chest-deep water that was thought to be close to 40 degrees.
Without any harm, the dog and its owner were reunited. The firefighter's prompt actions were commended by department officials, who also urged locals to keep a tight eye on dogs near the marsh area because crews have previously dealt with similar situations there. According to officials, chilly water and marsh terrain can pose risks to rescuers and animals, particularly in Maine's coastal regions.
