NEWPORT, N.Y. — On May 4th — In honor of International Firefighters' Day, Department Newport Fire Co. #4 commended firefighters for their ongoing community service. Every year, International firemen' Day is marked to honor the efforts of volunteer and professional firemen worldwide. Firefighters safeguard people and property by responding to medical crises, structural fires, rescue calls, hazardous situations, and other disasters.

To stay ready for emergencies, firefighters get frequent training in fire suppression, rescue operations, emergency medical response, and public safety protocols, according to department officials. The fire service community's common dedication and teamwork are also highlighted during the celebration. In honor of firemen and their commitment to emergency response and public safety, messages of gratitude were distributed throughout the area.
