MANCHESTER, N.J. — On April 10th — Using apparatus 3428, members of Department Ridgeway Vol. Fire Co. #1 Sta. 34 took part in a regional tanker drill. The exercise concentrated on tanker shuttle techniques, which are used to transport big volumes of water to places without hydrants, and rural water supply operations. Fill site operations, portable tank assembly, apparatus staging, and coordinated water movement between responding units were all practiced by firefighters.
While working through realistic fireground scenarios, crews also reviewed safe vehicle operating, radio communication, and apparatus placement. Departmental coordination is enhanced and preparedness for situations requiring prolonged water supply operations is maintained through tanker drills. According to department officials, the drill gave participants practical practice using tanker equipment.
