Live Fire Aircraft Training Keeps ARFF Crews Mission-Ready

Portland, ME - Firefighters from Portland’s Air Rescue Division completed specialized live fire training at the New Hampshire Fire Academy, strengthening their readiness for aircraft emergencies.


The hands-on evolutions placed crews in realistic aircraft fire scenarios, focusing on fuel fire suppression, hose line operations, coordinated rescue efforts, and high-heat environment tactics.


The training fulfills Federal Aviation Administration Part 139 requirements, which mandate annual live fire exercises for Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting personnel.


Officials said the training is essential to maintaining proficiency, teamwork, and rapid response capabilities at Portland International Jetport, ensuring crews remain prepared for aviation-related incidents.
