Maritime Drill Tests Shipboard Firefighting and Unified Command
Portland, ME - Portland firefighters joined Maine Maritime Academy personnel for a complex shipboard training exercise aboard the training vessel State of Maine, simulating a fire in an engine casing.
The scenario required full coordination between ship crews and responding fire companies, including the evacuation and accountability of all personnel aboard.
Fire units established unified command with the vessel’s captain while crews deployed aerial operations, supplied water to the ship’s fire main via the International Shore Connection, and advanced hose lines to the simulated fire area.
The drill reinforced critical skills in maritime firefighting, crew accountability, and interagency coordination in a challenging, real-world environment.
