Richmond Fire Conducts Dry Hydrant Flushing, Training Operations

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Richmond, MA - The Richmond Volunteer Fire Department is conducting annual dry hydrant flushing to ensure reliable water access for emergencies.

Crews clear sediment buildup by backflushing hydrant lines, then draft water to confirm proper operation.

Unlike municipal systems, the town relies on dry hydrants connected to natural water sources such as ponds and streams.

The work also provides valuable hands-on training in driving, pumping, and familiarization with local water supply points. Operations will continue on remaining hydrants in the coming days.
