Limited-Staffing Rescue Training Enhances Fireground Tactics and Survivability Skills
Allegheny, PA - The Evergreen Fire Company participated in an advanced training program at the Allegheny County Fire Academy focused on single-family dwelling rescue operations with limited staffing.
The pilot course was specifically designed for two-person crews, emphasizing efficiency, coordination, and decision-making in high-risk environments.
Operating in simulated smoke-filled conditions, participants trained on performing VEIS (Vent, Enter, Isolate, Search) and victim removal via ladder, utilizing thermal imaging cameras and maintaining strong communication throughout the evolution.
Crews also practiced advancing hose lines while simultaneously conducting searches for victims, incorporating split-search techniques to maximize effectiveness and improve survivability outcomes.
The program reinforced the critical role of communication, situational awareness, and adaptability when operating with minimal personnel.
The training provided valuable hands-on experience in executing complex fireground tasks under realistic conditions, further strengthening operational readiness.
