New Chiefs, Officers Announced in Athens

On May 2, Anthony's Catering Hall hosted the Athens Volunteer Fire Company's annual installation and awards ceremony.


Three recently elected chiefs are Wayne Butterworth Jr. (second assistant chief), Antonio Fuentes (first assistant chief), and James Robinson III (chief). Captain Don Winegard and Lieutenants Dave Disbrow, Seth Dillworth, and Shawn Burdick are among the line officers. Greg Walker is the captain of the fire department.


President Alan Frisbee, Vice President John C. Miller, Secretary Emily Lubera, Financial Secretary Tom Borfitz, Treasurer George Stacey Sr., Chaplain John "Randy" VanValkenburg, Sergeant at Arms Ethan Young, Steward John "Randy" VanValkenburg, and Quartermaster Antonio Fuentes are the executive officials. John Greco, James Robinson Jr., Michael Gonzales, Robert Schrader, and Jessica Vermilyea are on the board.


Awards included the Eugene Fandozzi Memorial Firefighter of the Year to Caitlyn Lubera, Chief’s Merit Award to Antonio Fuentes, and Harold VanShaack Memorial Leadership Awards to Shawn Burdick and Earl Martin IV. Service awards recognized five-, ten-, twenty-, and fifty-year members, with Terry Proper honored for 50 years. The Past Chiefs pin was presented to Wayne Butterworth Jr. Officials noted the department has served the community since 1805.
