Bergen Crews Apply Training at Rollover Crash

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Bergen, NY — April 20th — During a morning collision at North Bergen and West Sweden roads, the Bergen Fire Department used their most recent extrication training. The day before, the department had simulated decreased personnel scenarios and evaluated equipment to represent typical daytime response conditions.

Crews were sent to a single-vehicle rollover. With the driver inside, the car veered off the road and landed on its side. Engine 27 completed the extrication by stabilizing the car and removing a portion of the roof with little personnel. With only minor injuries, the driver was taken to a hospital. The episode emphasizes how crucial it is to train for low-staffing reactions and adjust to the resources that are on hand.
