SHREWSBURY, MA — April 21st — Furqan Shaik, a student at Shrewsbury High School, participated in a career shadowing program at the Shrewsbury, Massachusetts Fire Department, located at 11 Church Road. Firefighters described daily duties, such as emergency response, training, and equipment readiness, during the tour. With an emphasis on safety protocols and operational duties, crews showed the equipment and tools utilized on occurrences. Shaik also took a tour of the building and climbed the department's 112-foot tower, which offered a view of Boston and the surrounding area from above.
Career shadowing programs help students develop an interest in public safety occupations by providing them with firsthand exposure to fire department operations. These initiatives are supported by numerous departments as part of recruitment and community outreach. A useful summary of the department's fire and emergency medical services tasks was given during the visit.
