Department Recognizes Legacy of “Chip” Hastings

Windham, NH — April 18th — Walter "Chip" Hastings, a retired Hampstead fire chief, passed away, according to the Windham Fire Department and Emergency Management, located at 3 Fellows Road. In 1967, Hastings and his spouse, Susan, joined the Hampstead Fire Department, where they worked for the town for over 42 years. He oversaw operations, training, and department development during his thirty years as Chief of Department. In volunteer and combination units, chief officers frequently mentor several generations of firemen, assisting in upholding continuity and standards.


Hastings was renowned for encouraging long-term departmental growth and serving as a mentor to staff members. His dedication is a reflection of the fire service's long-standing dedication in New Hampshire towns. The Hastings family received condolences from the department.
