Keene Firefighters Complete Confined Space Course

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

In the third week of April 2020, members of the Brattleboro Professional Firefighters Local 4439 and the Professional Firefighters of Keene IAFF Local 3265 finished the IAFF Confined Space Technician training.

Low oxygen levels, hazardous gases, and restricted access were among the risks connected with cramped areas like tanks, manholes, and underground vaults that were covered in the training. Members received training in rope systems, atmospheric monitoring, and patient rescue methods tailored to specific settings.

Rare yet dangerous, confined space rescues call for specific tools, coordination, and communication. Consistent operations during mutual aid reactions are supported by training with regional partners.

Department representatives stressed the value of being ready for complicated, infrequent events and expressed pride in the members' efforts.
