Sandown, NH — April 28th — Due to elevated brush fire threat conditions through midweek, Sandown Fire Rescue, 314 Main Street, put its forestry apparatus "Big Foot" back into duty. With a high-pressure, low-volume pump appropriate for rural and wilderness applications, the unit can hold 3,000 gallons of water. The original "Big Foot" was a 1967 U.S. 10-ton tank recovery truck from the Army before it was modified for use by the fire department.
This kind of equipment is frequently employed in New Hampshire in the spring, when wind and dry fuels raise the risk of fire. The device facilitates prolonged suppression operations and enhances access to off-road regions, according to fire officials. The action is a component of seasonal preparedness initiatives to deal with elevated brush fire activity.
