Orange, VT - Members of the Wells River Fire Department took part in an in-depth hazardous materials training session alongside the Newbury Fire Department, hosted by the Vermont Hazardous Materials Response Team.

The evening focused on practical use of the Emergency Response Guide (ERG), with firefighters reviewing hazardous material placards commonly found on tractor trailers and rail cars.

Crews discussed the types of hazardous substances frequently encountered in the region and strategies for safely approaching and managing such incidents.

Training also included hands-on instruction with 4-gas monitoring equipment, covering what the meters detect, how to interpret readings, and how those readings influence on-scene decision-making.
