Boston Fire Announces New Commissioner from Dorchester

Boston, MA — April 16th — Rodney Marshall was named Fire Commissioner #45 by the Boston Fire Department, located at 115 Southampton Street. Marshall has been with the agency for a long time and has held a variety of operational and administrative positions, including Deputy Chief. His appointment is the first time in the department's history that a Black firefighter has been appointed commissioner.


His leadership, training, and experience in fireground operations were highlighted by department authorities as important elements. Marshall's takeover of operations, personnel, and community risk reduction initiatives throughout the city's fire department is a reflection of the organization's ongoing evolution.
