Wildland fire fighting aircraft assist with the Packerton Fire in Jim Thorpe

Saturday April 19th a wildfire broke out on Bear Mountain in Jim Thorpe, Carbon County. Fire fighters from all over Carbon county, DCNR - Department of Conservation and Natural Resorces, even wildland crews from York County and Allentown and even from Pittsburgh and Erie along with fire fighting aircraft battled this blaze for 6 days straight. While battling the fire on the ground there was areas fire fighters couldn't reach or the fire behavior was to extreme. DCNR called for all fire fighting aircraft to help stop the spread of the fire with retardant drops from 4 S.E.A.T's - Single Engine Air Tankers along with water drops from a helicopter with a bambi bucket. 2 of the air tankers were stationed at the Hazleton Regional Airport while the other 2 air tankers were based in Mid-State Regional Airport. The fire was fully contained by all ground crews and air crews Friday April 25th with a total of 560 acres that burned.
