Island Park, NY — April 13th — The yearly elections of the Island Park Volunteer Fire Department, located at 440 Long Beach Road, signaled a change in the department's leadership. Along with First Assistant Chief Mike Denis and Second Assistant Chief Donny Cardineau, Mahendra Hardwar was chosen as the department's chief.

Additionally, line officers were chosen to assist with reaction, training, and operations. Strong leadership is crucial for controlling call volume, organizing mutual aid, and preserving preparedness, according to department officials. Nassau County volunteer departments still depend on seasoned officers to manage crews and ensure safe operations. Throughout the next term, the newly elected executives will oversee the department, emphasizing staffing, training, and efficient emergency response.
