West Hempstead, NY — April 16th — To enhance response along the rail corridor in its area, the West Hempstead Fire Department, located at 295 Hempstead Tpke, trained in railroad operations alongside the Long Island Rail Road. Members went over third rail system power dangers, train movement, and track layout. Additionally, during incidents, crews dealt with staging, access points, and contact with rail staff.

Coordination with railroad officials is crucial to the department's operations since it safeguards a portion of the LIRR track. Safe approach, patient access, and incident command in the vicinity of active rail lines were the main topics of scenario-based drills. Regular collaborative training, according to officials, lowers risk and promotes efficient handling of rail-related incidents.
