Garden City Responders Honored at Firematic Awards

Garden City, NY — April 14th — Assistant Chief Daniel Roeper and Police Officer Michael Irizarry received recognition for their actions during a house fire on September 21, 2025, at the Nassau County Firematic Awards, which were attended by members of the Garden City Fire Department, located at 347 Stewart Ave. A two-story home with a basement fire was responded to by crews.


A firefighter working in the kitchen during interior operations partially slid through a floor that had been compromised by fire below. The firefighter was swiftly rescued from the opening by Roeper and Irizarry. The Nassau County Fire Commission awarded Roeper the Class II Silver Medal and Irizarry a proclamation. Mayor Edward T. Finneran and other village leaders were present.
