NORTHPORT, NY — April 8th — Dan Cross was elected Chief of Department by the Northport Volunteer Fire Department.

In addition to being an active member of the Water Rescue/Dive Team and Rescue Squad, Cross was previously the Captain of Hook and Ladder Company 1. He has experience with both specialist rescue operations and fire suppression.

As part of the department's leadership team for the next term, he will be assisted by First Assistant Chief Bill Scherer and Second Assistant Chief Ryan Gerow. In order to maintain operations, response, and training continuity, department elections are still a common practice among volunteer agencies.

Cross's experience will assist continued service and preparedness within the department and the Northport community, according to officials.
